Algonquin Creatures

A rather tasty male Parula.

The quite exotic looking Calico Pennant Celithemis elisa

What big eyes you have.

I think this is an Amber-winged Spreadwing Lestes eurinus. In theory the 'amber' washed wings should make identification straightforward!

Carden Plain Birds

Wilson's Snipe - fond of fenceposts.

Carden Plain (a Canadian IBA) is an extensive area of globally rare alvar habitat about two hours north of Toronto. The flat limestone bedrock is either completely exposed or covered in only a thin layer of soil, resulting in dry, praire-like conditions which support a unique assemblage of flora and fauna.

I love the weird sounds Upland Sandpipers make.

Grasshopper Sparrows are pretty common at Carden.

Possibly the most photographed Eastern Bluebirds in Canada - the residents of box number 10 on Wylie Road.
